Recent Warning/Reports Regarding Yemen
On Wednesday, November 5, 1997, the U.S. Embassy in Yemen issued the following Public Announcement:
"The U.S. Embassy has received information that there is a terrorist threat to American interests in Sanaa. In the Embassy's view, Americans are most vulnerable in places where the official and private American communities come together. We advise Americans to keep this information in mind when making decisions about their movements. The Embassy also renews its advice to Americans to maintain a high state of awareness concerning their personal security.
In their threat assessment, ERRI analysts consider Yemen to be a HIGH RISK, at this time. A high risk is defined as countries where terrorist/ insurgent groups pose a serious threat to a nation's political and/or economic stability or countries that face widespread street violence resulting from political dissension or economic unrest. Also, nations actively involved in violent regional disputes with neighboring countries, nation's with a high potential for a military coup or countries that show evidence of prejudicial treatment against foreign interests. Only essential travel is generally recommended. Stringent security precautions and practices are warranted.
