Bomb Found in Newark Medical Center

An explosive device was found at about 1300 EST in a third floor hallway of the Medical Sciences Building at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), located at South Orange Avenue near Bergen Street in Newark, New Jersey.

The device was detonated in place by the Newark bomb squad. No injuries were reported. Structural damage to the building was reported by Newark Firefighters, following the planned detonation by the EOD personnel.

Speculation regarding the motive for the bomb involves either a disgruntled employee or revenge by drug dealers, who are upset with UMDNJ for their recent public reports regarding "bad heroin" that has been circulating in Newark. An investigation continues, and Newark police reportedly have suspects that they want to interview.
