747 Reportedly Explodes Near Moriches Bay, NY
ENN is receiving preliminary reports regarding the "explosion" and crash of a TWA 747, Flight #800, enroute to
Paris, France from Kennedy Airport. It is believe to be in the water approximately 10 miles south of Moriches Bay
in Suffolk County, NY. A major sea rescue is underway, including 6 Coast Guard Helicopters and Coast Guard
Cutters. Private craft are also assisting in the rescue.
As many as 229 souls were believed to be on-board the ill-fated flight. Bodies of victims are being seen in the water
and reported by marine radio. Requests are going out for additional assistance. ENN is gathering more information
from the scene and will provide it as soon as possible. Speculation is centering on a "major explosion" and/or
possible terrorist act.

Additional Information Regarding Crash Site/Rescue Efforts
According to NYC and Suffolk County Emergency Service sources, TWA #800 reportedly was at 8,000 ft. when it
disappeared off the radar. Time of the crash was put at 20:40EDT. Wreakage is thought to be in approximately 100
ft. of water and the water temperature in the area is 70 degrees F. According to Suffolk County police sources, no
survivors have been located as of the time of this report. Several bodies are thought to have been recovered. Special
dive teams have been dispatched by the NYC Police Department, the Coast Guard, and several local area rescue
agencies. Rescue efforts continue at this hour.
FBI, ATF, and NTSB officials are reportedly enroute or at the scene, and special evidence recovery teams are being
sent to the scene. President Clinton has been notified of the incident by SecTrans Pena and a press conference
previosuly scheduled for 22:15CDT was cancelled pending further developments.
