Increasing Threats of Terrorist Attacks Against the US/Israel Reported

According to the independent SNS news service and several other Mid-East sources, Israeli security officials have announced that intelligence information that they have gathered points to an increased likelihood of planned attacks against Israeli targets in coming days. According to intelligence officials there, Hamas and other Islamic extremist affiliated terrorists in the US, and elsewhere, have been distributing information about threats and potential attacks, via the internet.

At the same time, similar news of US targets being threatened have reached ENN from the US, the Middle East, and UK sources. These threats have come from Hamas, Hizbullah, the radical Islamist Hizb al-Tahrir (Liberation Party) in Jordan, and the anti-Saudi/US groups: Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights and "Legion of the martyr Abdullah al-Huzaifi," from both outside and inside of Saudi Arabia.

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary, on the Moslem calendar, of the death in Malta of Islamic Jihad terrorist leader, Fatchi Shakaki, allegedly at the hands of assasins close to Israeli-backed intelligence operatives. Islamic Jihad is an Iranian-backed Palestinian off-shoot organization that was set up when it appeared Hamas was cooperating with the Palestinian Authority and was no longer extreme enough for some sponsors in in the Mid-East.

Security officials in Israel are increasing patrols surrounding what are to be considered sensitive areas and prime targets. These targets are thought to include include public transportation facilities, religious sites, and areas of public gathering. Security officials say that there have reportedly been specific threats of a large attack scheduled for tomorrow.

No similar increase in security at any US site has been reported, but U.S. military and intelligence officials are thought to be assessing these latest reports of potential terrorist threats. ERRI analysts are urging caution and special alertness during the period from now until the U.S. elections in November.
