In NYC and it's surrounding area, the Port Authority Police has jurisdiction at the three major airports: Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark International Airport. The Officers have bi-state law enforcement jurisdiction, and, at the airports, are responsible for the Crash Crews. In addition, they patrol the infamous Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, the World Trade Center, the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, the George Washington Bridge, PATH Commuter railroad, and the three bridges between the NYC Borough of Staten Island and New Jersey.
On Saturday, December 2, at approximately midnight, EST, Port Authority Police were in pursuit of a robbery suspect that took place on LaGuardia Airport in the NYC Borough of Queens. Officers chased the suspect off the airport-proper, on to the 94 Street overpass of the Grand Central Parkway. The Parkway is a heavily traveled highway that connects the Triboro Bridge with all major highways to Long Island, and is a major route to John F. Kennedy Airport. The suspect, who was not identified, jumped from the overpass onto the Parkway, a distance of approximately fifty feet. This resulted in a motor vehicle accident, with NYC*EMS treating eight patients in the multi-vehicle incident. The perpetrator was arrested at the scene.
In another PAPD incident, at approximately 1415 hrs., EST, two track workers were killed, and another critically injured, when a commuter train from the Port Authority Trans-Hudson Railroad (PATH), struck them about an eight of a mile outside of that railroads Harrison, NJ, station The railroad connects Newark, NJ, with downtown and midtown Manhattan, NYC., with stops in Jersey City and Hoboken, NJ. The Harrison Station is the first stop outside of Newark.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of the railroad's Harrison repair shop. Port Authority Police responded with their Emergency Response personnel, as well as their railroad Accident Investigation Team, and set up a crime scene in conjuction with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. The injured track worker was taken to University Hospital in Newark.
