DUNSMUIR, Calif. (ENN) -- According to ENN police sources, a tractor-trailer truck crashed and burned on California Interstate 5 this morning, and then several other vehicles smashed into the burning wreakage. At least five people were killed and several others were reported injured in the fatal mishap.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), at least three large trucks and numerous other cars were involved in the 09:10 a.m. crash. CHP office assistant Annarae Heath reportedly told the Associated Press, "We have five confirmed dead, possibly six. Both northbound and southbound lanes are closed. We estimate they will be closed six to eight hours."
The accident happened on a stretch of road, about 200 miles north of Sacramento, within a mile of the site of a 30-car fatal accident that occured last Friday. A major CHP accident investigation is reportedly underway, in an effort to determine the cause of the accident and whether or not there are any ties between the two deadly crashes.
