Israeli Defense Industries Announce New Assault Weapon
The new Israeli weapon of the future...the M-203. The weapon, still not in use, is reportedly first going to be issued to the elite commando-reconnaissance units of the IDF in the future.
Some facts and figures about the weapon.
- 1. Designed by Israel Military Industries.
- 2. The IDF gave the inner mechanism and barrel to artists and told them to design the gun to fit the body.
- 3. There are no sharp edges on the gun.
- 4. It has an aerodynamic design - nothing to catch clothing or fingers on.
Some of the highlights:
- 1. On the grip, directly behind the trigger, there are built in handgrips, rubber bumps, protruding from the weapon so that a soldier never looses his grip, even after holding it a long time.
- 2. The shoulder stock is contoured to the anatomy of the shoulder. It "fits" in the shoulder and doesn't move.
- 3. The handgrip by the trigger has protection so that in the event of slippage, the hand cannot be injured.
- 4. The spacing around the trigger allows for the infantry soldier to comfortably operate the weapon while wearing warm gloves.
Specs
- 1. The gun, including night sights, and a magazine with 30 rounds, weighs 3.5 kg. That is 1 kg. more than the M-16.
- 2. The weapon is classified as an assault rifle with multiple uses. It is good for anti-terror missions, because it can be equipped with a silencer. An optical long distance "sight" can also be added. It comes standard with a laser sight enabling it to be used in night or low-light combat.
Sorry - the caliber of the weapon is not specified at this time.
