WASHINGTON (ENN) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Friday warned Jewish groups in the United States that a threat has been received to murder 1,200 Jewish executives and physicians in the U.S. unless Isreal withdraws its military forces from Lebanon by Sunday. In a statement, the FBI said, "There is no way to know at this time if the threat is real, but the FBI believes that Jewish organizations, synagogues and individuals should fear for their own safety and be on heightened alert."
The threat received by the FBI also demanded that Isreal pay $12 billion by Sunday to compensate the Lebanese killed in Operation Grapes of Wrath. The FBI also said that it has informed the Isreali General Security Service (GSS) of the threat. Also notified have been other U.S. federal, state and local law enforecment agencies.
SPOKANE, WASHINGTON (ENN) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a nationwide alert to all law enforcement agencies warning about potential acts of domestic terrorism if the standoff with Freemen in Montana turns violent. The alert also included a letter that was reportedly sent by some unidentified militia leaders to their followers. The letter threatened to use violence against targets of opportunity, such as offices of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and communications centers.
The letter said, "In the event that the military is used or militia leaders are assaulted, all commands must be prepared to act. The domestic terrorism operation is supposed to be codenamed, Project Worst Nightmare. The letter was reportedly sent to underground cells of militia members members on 28 March 1996, which was only three days after the Montana standoff began.
This alert is now significant because it is being reported that the FBI may now be losing its patience with the Freemen. On Wednesday, the FBI invited the Freemen to a face-to-face meeting that was supposed to take place today, Saturday. The FBI told the group that they should attend the meeting or "suffer the consequences."
The Freemen rejected the offer of the meeting by saying that by their interpretation the FBI does not exist because it is not a governmental agency.
In the alert to police agencies, the FBI statement said, "While this particular text (The aforementioned letter sent to militia groups) is not associated with any specific militia organization in the United States, it is an indicator that certain militia groups may be taking the following information seriously."
