Frequently Asked Questions
Emergency.com is a Veteran-Owned Small Business

While we try very hard to provide clear, accurate, and timely news and information and do offer clarification, corrections, comments, and/or other associated services regarding stories provided on this website, please realize that, as our disclaimer says , everything here is provided "as is." We are prepared to provide as much other information, news, and analysis regarding almost any emergency/national security related topic...as you may need...but, please be advised that we can't afford to do so on a "pro-bono" basis. Please see "Is there a charge for additional information below"
We frequently get questions about why the stories on the Fire Operations page, Police Operations page, or Disaster Operations (or any other specialty page, for that matter) may be a month or more "old." Suggestions are commonly received that we should just post "current information" to each of the reference pages as soon a it happens.
Please be advised that the site is not organized in that manner. As it says on the main menu page and each specialty page (Fire/Police/EMS/Disaster/Terrorism, etc.), ALL stories appear first on the EmergencyNet News page, where we post breaking news and our most recent contributions to the website. Please also realize that only a very small percentage of our overall news and analysis content is posted on this website. After the stories appear on the EmergencyNet News page, they are then transferred for archiving on each of our specialty pages, according to topic and interest area. In other words, the first place to look for the most current EmergencyNet News stories is the News Page.
Daily, we produce dozens of articles on breaking news, reference, and analysis of the many leading emergency service, military, intelligence and other associated issues and distribute it via e-mail to our subscribers. For people that need immediate notification of disasters and other breaking issues we also provide a 24 hour a day/7 days a week *Flash* news service. In other words, the best way to get the latest news, as it happens, is to subscribe to EmergencyNet News.
The EmergencyNet NEWS Service is the reporting arm and a subsidiary of the
Chicago-based Emergency Response and Research Institute (ERRI). ERRI is an emergency
service/military "think-tank" that studies evolving events, problems, and policy
germane to the emergency response, intelligence, military, and national security
communities. Both ERRI and the EmergencyNet News Service are non-partisan, non-political,
and completely independent We do not receive any funding or other influence from any
political, ethnic, religious, or ideological group or organization. Our editorial policies
and positions are just that...our editorial positions.
ERRI has been monitoring threats to the national security and business communities and
other interests since 1990. It published its findings and related materials through the
EmergencyNet News service. EmergencyNet News specializes in providing timely,
comprehensive, and objective reporting on international and domestic terrorism, crime,
disasters, and related activities, as well as other emergency response topics.
EmergencyNet News generates a number of publications, special reports, flash messages and
links to ERRI consulting services to accomplish our goal of providing the most factual,
in-depth and timely information to our subscribers and clients, in order to help them
maximize their knowledge and not fall victim to the dangers associated with crime,
terrorism and other violence or disasters. EmergencyNet News is also distributed to a
number of national and international news agencies, TV stations, Radio stations, emergency
magazines, and other periodicals.
Our publications include the Daily Intelligence Report, the Daily Emergency
Services Report, the ERRI Weekly Terrorism Report and *FLASH* news reports that
are sent as an incident happens . EmergencyNet News reporting is available through the on-line EMERGENCY electronic bulletin board, or by
e-mail. In addition to studies and reports, ERRI conducts consulting and education
programs in a large number of emergency-related areas, including specialized consulting
for emergency response agencies, major corporations, small and medium-sized businesses,
financial institutions, law firms and government entities.
The EMERGENCY RESPONSE & RESEARCH INSTITUTE (ERRI), of Chicago, IL, was founded to provide uncomplicated solutions to complex and demanding problems. Late in 1990, ERRI began to undertake a vastly different approach to providing news, information, research and communications services to the emergency response and government community. The EMERGENCY Bulletin Board System (BBS) went on-line on January 15, 1991 with a computer database retrieval service.
The system was originally a direct result of a nation-wide survey conducted among Emergency Medical Service (EMS) managers, who overwhelmingly expressed support for the idea. Within six months, due to popular demand, it was expanded to include fire, police, and disaster services. Soon it was also evident that we should include terrorism, medical, military, rescue, crisis management and other related topics. Over the years, several other related professions and subjects have been added.
Since our humble beginnings, the both the content and the capabilities of the system have continually been upgraded, to provide one of the nation's most comprehensive database and reference systems, designed to serve the emergency and government community. In 1995, this website was instituted, with the intent of providing a user-friendly interface that would better enable emergency, military, and intelligence personnel to access the information that is important to their work.
Virtually all of our writers, analysts, contributors, editors, consultants, and editorial advisory board members for the EmergencyNet News Service and the Emergency Response and Research Institute have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of service in some of America's leading emergency service, government, or military agencies. Several of our staff are retired from government service. All are "experts" in their own right and can often be seen and heard on a number of media outlets, read in emergency/military/intelligence publications, and heard on the lecture circuits. Even the HTML and programming code for our webpages is provided by a retired emergency service chief, who has undertaken the internet and the provision of news and information as a second career. Rest assured that all of our news, information, analysis, and opinions truly are "provided by professionals for professionals."
Unfortunately, due to the fact that we receive no government or other public funding, we are unable to provide statistics, article reprints, internet searches, analysis, or other consulting services for free. Please do not contact us for assistance with your high school/college term paper, internal office project, or other matter for which someone would normally be paid or receive academic credit. Like everyone else in business, we need to be paid for our work and to be able to support the efforts of this website, which is being provided to you at no charge.
The Emergency Response & Research Institute, Inc. is a for-profit, privately-held, Sub-Chapter-S corporation, chartered in the State of Illinois. Our Federal tax I.D. number is 35-4015535.
The information on this website is being provided at no-charge to the emergency, military, and national security community, as a public service, and as an adjunct to our other for-profit activities. Our efforts here are supported by sales of our news products, consulting, webpage advertisement, internet and computer services, and the provision of educational/evaluation/consulting programs. Without the support of our clients, we would be unable to provide this website, at no charge, for you. Please support our website advertisers and consider hiring EmergencyNet News or ERRI for your information/consulting/educational needs.
