Two separate bombings took place in London involving the IRA and mass transit. According to Scotland Yard, at least one person was killed and forty (40) others injuried in two separate bombings that occured on 02-18-91. One happened at the famous Victoria Station and the other at Paddington station during the morning rush hour. While London police and British anti-terrorist authorities denied the possible involvement of any activity concerning the Persian Gulf war, American intelligence and other anti-terrorist analysts issued statements indicating that the IRA bombings may have been perpetrated in sympathy with the Iraq regime. The two bombs follow a previous mortar attack on Whitehall that occured on 02-07-91.
In a related story, at least three bombings occured in Beirut, Lebanon. A car bomb went off near the French Embassy, a Syrian Army car exploded near the Lebanon-Gulf bank, and another bomb exploded near the Metropolitan bank with four (4) injuries. Officials report that the latest bombings bring to seventeen (17), the total number of bombings of coalition related businesses and government buildings in Beirut, since the beginning of the Persian Gulf conflict.
Anti-terrorist analysts in Chicago report that that the latest attacks bring the total of incidents since the beginning of the Persian Gulf conflict to one-hundred and sixteen (116); resulting in the deaths of at least 14 people and injuries to more than 200. This number far exceeds any one month period preceeding the war and reflects the increased activity that is indicative of Iraq "calling in it's markers" for the support that it has provided to various "revolutionary cells" for the past several years.
