ABOUT THE AUTHOR/LECTURER:

Clark Staten is a U.S. Army veteran, former policeman, and former certified paramedic. Staten retired in 1995 as an Asst. Chief Paramedic and a twenty (20) year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department. He has participated in and managed more than 12,500 emergency responses. He has been a frequent lecturer on the tactics and political implications of Domestic and International terrorism, Crisis Management, Street Survival, Hazardous Materials, Chem/Bio Consequence Management, Media Relations, Management & Motivation Methods, Productivity, Mass Casualty/Disaster Management, Computers and Information Systems, Security Planning and Testing, Crisis Intervention & Critical Incident Stress, and several other specialized rescue and management topics.

Staten is a certified DoD Domestic Preparedness Instructor-Trainer and taught under contract at the U.S. Army Chemical school at Ft. McClellan, AL. Staten has been employed as a contract counter-terrorism instructor for the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, NATO, and a number of law enforcement agencies. In 1998, Staten was appointed to be the Emergency Management Advisor and editorial board member at the International Association of Counter-Terrorism and Security Professionals (IACSP) and in October of 1999 received the IACSP 1999 Annual National Leadership Award. In March of 2000, Staten was also named to the Center For International and Strategic Studies (CSIS) Task Force on Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism (CBRN)

He has taught a variety of emergency-related topics at more at more than than 150 international, national, regional, state and local conferences. Staten has also appeared on the CNN, BBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, CBC, FOX, and the Voice of America (VOA) Networks in regards to terrorism, crisis, and emergency-related issues. In 2001, Staten also began work as an on-air terrorism consultant for WFLD TV (FOX) in Chicago, IL. Staten also is a frequent guest and terrorism analyst for the Batchelor & Alexander Show, syndicated on the ABCNews national radio network.

Staten is also the founder and Executive Director of the Emergency Response & Research Institute (ERRI) in Chicago, IL. Since 1990, he has been the Sysop (System Operator) of the EMERGENCY Bulletin Board Service (BBS). ERRI provides computer data-based retrieval, reference, world-wide-web and media services to Police/Fire/EMS/Intelligence and Military personnel from throughout the world.

Under Staten's direction, ERRI also provides research, consulting, evaluation, and management services to government, emergency service agencies and corporate entities. He currently is also the publisher of the computer based EmergencyNet NEWS Service, which is distributed daily on the internet by ERRI, and is the Supervising Webmaster of the ERRI world-wide-web site.

Chief Staten has published or been interviewed in more than one-hundred and twenty-five (125) articles in such publications as Bottom-Line Business, Information Security Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, 911 Magazine, Security Magazine, Emergency Preparedness News, Emergency Medical Service Magazine, Information Security Magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, Newsbytes, Firefighter's News, Counter-Terrorism & Security Reports, Newsday, Baltimore Sun, Rescue/EMS Magazine, Journal of Emergency Medical Services, Firehouse, Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Fire Command, Wired News, CNET News, Bloomberg Business Reports, Annuals in Emergency Medicine, EMS Management Advisor, EMT Journal and is the principal author of the book "Emergency Response Guide To Terrorism (5th Ed.)," and "Selected Essays on Terrorism and U.S. National Security."
