PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA - Stanford Mall 3rd alarm, El Camino Real. Fire in the Empoium Mall. Mall was scheduled to be torn down. Cause under investigation. Fire started at 10:00, quickly went to 3rd due to massive size. (40x30 fully involved, multi-story.) Fire under control at 11:30. Red Cross called. Cause under investigation.
A second Engine was requested. Upon arrival of the first engine, they reported a 1979 Oldsmobile had broadsided a Armored Transport of California armored car. One of the two people from the armored car had been ejected, and the people in the Oldsmobile were trapped. A second truck, two more medics, and LifeFlight helicopter was activated with a landing zone of El Camino & Rengstorff, a VERY busy intersection. There were four people in the Oldsmobile, and the top had to be cut off.
Four victims were transported via ambulance to Stanford / Valley Med, and two victims were transported via LifeFlight to San Jose Hospital, with one person in critical condition. The Mountain View Police guarded the van until a transport unit arrived, since the ATC vehicle was fully loaded, and ensured that a transport was made. No money was lost. A second JOL was brought in from Los Altos.
