U.S. Dept. of Justice Provides New On-Line Statistics

The U.S. Dept. of Justice Statistics today announced that they are now making a large body of crime statistics available on a new government website. According to B.J.S. Director Jan Chaiken, data sets on murder rates, drug usage, domestic abuse violence, gunsused in crimes, and prison populations will be made available at:

According to Chaiken, data will be available from the mid-1970s to the present time and additional information will be added the website on an ongoing basis. Chaiken said that the new website was part of a larger goal to make government information instantly available to those doing research and studying issues of crime in the United States.
