Five killed at strip mall in Chicago suburb

TINLEY PARK, IL: Five women were shot to death at a suburban Chicago clothing store on Saturday, police said. The victims were shot and killed at a Lane Bryant store at the Brookside Marketplace, police Sgt. T.J. Grady said.

Grady said officers responding to a 911 call about a shooting at the Brookside Marketplace at about 10:45 a.m. found the shooting victims inside a Lane Bryant store in this Chicago suburb.

Grady refused to give other details at a news conference or take questions, but said the attacker had apparently left the area in the suburbs southwest of downtown Chicago.

"No motive has been established," Grady said. "Every store was immediately canvassed and a search by air, too, has given us every indication that the offender has left the scene."

[Emergency.Blog note: Other sources close to the police are now saying that they think that robbery was the motive for this incident.]
