Multi-Story Building Collapse Reported in Istanbul, Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN) -- Crowds of rescuers descended upon the debris of a multi-story apartment building that collapsed in Istanbul Thursday, frantically trying to remove the crumbled concrete to find any survivors.

A reporter on the scene said the rescuers could hear voices from the debris.

Residents reported evacuating the building after hearing a crack in the roof, but some went back inside before it collapsed, Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler told CNN Turk.

At least 17 ambulances had arrived on the scene, located in the Sirinevler neighborhood of Istanbul, but there were no reports of anyone being pulled from the debris.

The building was at least six stories, which pancaked on top of each other. Story continues at: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/04/26/istanbul.building/index.html
