...Isreal...
An ENN affiliate, the SNS News Service in Isreal, reported on Tuesday that security for U.S. President Bill Clinton's trip to the country will be very heavy. SNS said that Israeli security officials are fearful of an attempted attack against the President and other world leaders by Hamas or the Islamic Jihad terror groups.
National Police Chief Assaf Hefetz said, "We fear there are suicide bombers poised for action. That is why there is a very high alert." A United States Embassy spokesman said that security officials in Isreal have advised President Clinton that he should restrict his movements and that security concerns should take precedence during his visit.
Overnight on Wednesday, the IDF reportedly arresting another twelve suspected Moslem militants on the West Bank. Beginning on Wednesday evening and lasting until Thursday afternoon, about 5,000 troops will be deployed in Jerusalem to provide protection for Mr. Clinton. 10,000 troops will be used throughout the country. The codename for the operation is "Song." The security detail will be headed by Commander Arye Amit, who is the Jerusalem District Commander of the Police Department.
At about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway (Road Number 1) will be closed to all traffic for about two-and-a- half hours. This will allow the Presidential motorcade to travel from Ben Gurion International Airport to Jerusalem. The highway will then be shut down again on Thursday at about 2:30 p.m.
Because security is very tight at the locale of the terrorism summit in Egypt and in Isreal, terrorists may be forced to look for suitable targets of attack elsewhere... most likely in the Middle East. Western Europe could also be a target.
ERRI is issuing an alert to Americans overseas and advises that extreme caution should be undertaken. The United States is currently giving very visible support of Isreal at this time and in the eyes of outlaw regime in Iran and its surrogate Muslim fanatics, the United States is known as the "Great Satan."
Clark Staten, ERRI CT analyst, said, "The current threat level of possible attacks involving the United States, its leaders, and its facilities throughout the world is as high as it has been since the 1991 Persian Gulf War." "The anticipated threat against Israel is even higher than that," Staten concluded. After all factors have been added up -- ERRI feels that there is an increased threat to Americans everywhere, at this time.
